The Road Ahead

A recent and dangerous vulnerability has been found in the Apache Log4j logging software library. This is a widely used software library found in applications ranging from Apache through Minecraft through to complex web services.

We do not use Log4j in any of our products, services or websites. Nor do we use Apache in any of our hosting services. As per Microsoft's official response, we do not currently believe our servers and systems are exposed.

We are investigating whether any third-party service, product or application we may use is potentially at risk. If any are, we will mitigate the risk where possible and update when fixes are released.

We will be performing routine maintenance on our TAMAR server later tonight (24th September 2021) after 8pm. We anticipate the total time required will be around 30 minutes to one hour.

During this period, there may be slight impairments to services or the occasional period of service unavailability.

We will update this post when the maintenance has been completed.

In line with recent Nominet changes, we will be introducing client lock statuses for all UK domains towards the middle of July. This change mirrors the functionality already available for gTLDs like .com, net etc.

This additional functionality will be available for all current UK domain TLDs (co.uk, org.uk, me.uk, ltd.uk, plc.uk, net.uk, sch.uk, uk).

As we are still finalising and testing the required code changes for this functionality, an exact release date is not yet available. We are, however, aiming to make the functionality available towards the middle of July 2021.

As part of routine maintenance and housekeeping, we will be restarting our TAMAR server at around 20:00 (BST) on the 30th June. We anticipate that downtime should last no longer than five minutes.

We've made some update to our Data Retention Policy to reflect recent tweaks to our email logging and recording. We've also cleaned up some language to make a few points clearer.
