Configure IMAP for iPhone or iPad

Introduction

Apple iPhones and iPads include support for IMAP accounts. This articles explains the steps involved to configure an iPhone or iPad to access our standard POP3/IMAP email accounts.

Method

  1. On the iPhone or iPad, tap on Settings
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  3. Tap Add Account
  4. Tap Other
  5. Tap Add Mail Account
  6. Complete the fields:
    • Name = Your Name
    • Address = your email address
    • Password = account password
    • Description = optional description
  7. Tap on Next
  8. Ensure IMAP is selected (should have blue background)
  9. Enter your incoming mail server details:
    • Hostname is typically mail.. For example, if your email address is joe@mydomain.com, then hostname will be mail.mydomain.com
    • Username = your full email address
    • Password = your account password
  10. Enter your outgoing mail server details:
    • Hostname is typically mail.. For example, if your email address is joe@mydomain.com, then hostname will be mail.mydomain.com
    • Username = your full email address
    • Password = your account password
  11. Tap on Next
  12. Your iPhone or iPad will attempt to establish an SSL connection to our mail servers. Our standard mail accounts don't include SSL connectivity, so this will fail with the message "Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?"
    • ?Tap No
    • Tap Save
    • If prompted with This account may not be able to send or receive emails. Are you sure you want to save?" tap Save
  13. Tap the account you just added (identified by email address)
  14. Scroll down and tap the SMTP button
  15. Select OFF for Use SSL
  16. Select Password for Authentication
  17. Select 25 for Server Port
  18. Tap the SMTP button to go back
  19. Tap your email address to go back
  20. Tap Advanced
  21. Scroll down to Incoming Settings
  22. Select OFF for Use SSL
  23. Select Password for Authentication
  24. Select 143 for Server Port
  25. Tap your email address to go back
  26. Tap Mail to go back
  27. Tap the Home button
  28. Tap the Mail App to check your configuration
